Welcome to mitecars.com.

Mitecars.com is a website which is designed to showcase mite cars in general and racing mites in particular.  Mite cars are usually considered to be the smaller gas powered miniature race cars powered by engines with a displacement  of 0.36 cubic inches or less.  Most mite cars are powered by 0.09-, 0.19- or 0.29-cubic inch model airplane engines.  Racing mites are mite cars which were purpose-built for racing and include those cars which were either designed specifically for competition or were versions of the more popular toy race cars which were modified to make them more competitive on the track.

This website includes a number of photos of mite cars in my collection as well as an attempt to capture the history of some of the cars, their builders, and the fellows who raced them.  Mite cars were produced between the late 1930s and the early 1960s, but the heyday of mite car racing occurred during the late 1940s through the mid-1950s.  Unfortunately, the major national publications which served to document the history of miniature car racing in the United States, "Model Race Cars" magazine and "Rail and Cable News", had ceased publication by the time mite car racing reached the peak of its popularity.  As a result, the history of mite car racing is not well documented.

I have, to a large extent, relied on the recollections of the fellows who actually built and raced these cars, or sometimes those of their widows or children, to piece together some of the history of these mighty mites.  Therefore, I don't claim that everything written on this website is entirely accurate and I would sincerely appreciate any additions or corrections to the material which I have included.

Thanks!
