Borden Mite

The teardrop shaped, spur gear drive Borden Mite was designed and built by Warren Borden of Waukegan, Illinois. Borden's streamliners, whether the larger .60 size versions or the smaller .29 size cars, featured minimal frontal area and excellent craftsmanship.
This particular Borden Mite, serial number 3, has a cast magnesium body and is powered by a modified Dooling .29 engine. The car was originally owned by SSgt. Joe Shelton. Shelton was serving in the US Air Force at the time and was one of the "Screaming Demons" stationed at Barksdale AFB near New Orleans, LA. Shelton successfully raced this car, as well as a number of .60 size cars, for a number of years. As Shelton's interest in the hobby waned and as he sold his race cars, the Borden Mite was the last car to go, saying it was his "favorite car."
